Busy week

Last week Finn's and Lily's Kindergarten was closed (the schools are having Pentecost break, too), so we hung out at home and did some fun things. Now that Lily is riding her 16'' bike I can take them on my runs. Both kids handle a few miles pretty well, but we do stop to look at the goats/smell the flowers/feed the horses/have a drink etc.

Lily has been battling pink eye, so she would have had to stay home from preschool anyway. One day she was especially cranky and took a 2 hour nap from 4-6pm. When she woke up she looked like this, the poor thing. It had moved from the left to her right eye (although I had been treating both eyes, of course). Thankfully that was the worst of it and she is pretty much all better by now.

"Hey! Take a picture of ME, too!"

Our little back yard is well used for all kinds of activities, from picnicking to building a bike wash.

And this is Finn's newest pet, a caterpillar called "Inchy".

This is Inchy's home. At least he got his own house and didn't have to move into Finn's snail colony that he keeps up in his tree house.

On Friday morning I had to take Lily to the doctor for some more prescription eye drops, and I needed to be back in town later for my physio therapy. So we decided to just stay there and spend a few nice hours hanging out together.

We went into the big Münster church and looked at the gold treasure (religious items) they keep in a side room.
Lily pretending to be a devout Catholic. ☺

"No running!" - I kept whisper-shouting. Oh well.

"Look, Lily, they put him in prison!"

"Smile, you two!"

"That Mama, always taking pictures."
(Note the "Amazing Spiderman" shirt Finn is wearing. It is a gift from Shirley and James from Florida that Ulli brought back from her vacation. It's a very cool shirt and I'll tell you why in a minute.)

It is awesome to see how kids can entertain themselves and find adventures in everything. Jumping up and trying to pick a leaf kept them busy for a long time.

After that much excercise they needed ice cream (yummy mango gelato to be precise)

while I enjoyed a (rather large) cappuccino. (See Finn's trophy leaves in the above pic?)

And what does the Spiderman shirt do in the sunlight? It turns from white to colors! Are you impressed, Uncle Karl? ☺

For lunch we met with Daddy, at a running sushi place close to where he works. First time there, and the kids LOVED it! Those little windows to open and grab a plate that is slowly moving past - what a great thing. "THERE, THERE! THE FRIED NOODLES ARE COMING AGAIN!" I think Finn ate 5 helpings of those.

And at night Neil took over the bedtime duties and put the kids to bed. I went upstairs some time later to see how he was doing. It was so quiet?

All right, I guess that counts. Well done. ☺

P.S. The kids did really well coming along to my numerous doctors' and physio therapy appointments these past 2 weeks. After ignoring the pain in my right shoulder/upper arm for weeks (because it wasn't too bad but getting worse) I finally went to see an orthopedist. After hearing my symptoms and pushing on a spot that sent me through the roof he told me what the problem was and x-rays confirmed it. Basically, the "ball" of the shoulder joint (humeral head) is pushing against the bone that is the "roof" of the shoulder (acromion) due to an imbalance and having used my shoulder lots (swimming etc). The muscle (rotator cuff) and tendons in between are inflamed because of the constant friction, plus some calcification (arthrosis) has formed. I got an injection to help with the pain and inflammation and now I am having shock wave therapy done once a week (by the orthopedist, and it HURTS), and have physio therapy about 3 times a week. Hopefully that will take care of the problem (I am also doing exercises at home to strengthen a muscle that will pull the humeral head down), if not I will have to have surgery to scrape the extra bone out. I will also have an MRI done to see what exactly is going on. Needless to say, the triathlon in July is definitely out. I can still run and do my everyday things, but I am in pain pretty much all the time. It is manageable, but I sure hope I will be pain free again relatively soon. Once my shoulder is fixed swimming is actually recommended. I have no idea how I did this to myself. The orthopedist said he usually sees this in men between the ages of 50 and 60. Seems I am NOT aging well, ha ha.
